70th Birthday Vintage Florals

I had a very last minute order come in for a 10" 70th birthday cake in a vintage design - roses, pretty florals and bunting in cream and pink.

I just adore doing these types of cakes; they just always have an air of grace and chicness about them. You can't go wrong with a pretty flower cake for mum or gran. I think this was just perfect for a 70th birthday.

Lego Ninjago for Bailey

And here we have a little red number...

I am a huge collector of lego. A 35 year old woman. Nothing wrong with that. It's ace, spend many hours building my modulars; and I just love the Ninjago theme so this was fun to make!

Airbrushed for depth with hand carved lettering. Nearly 6" deep and 7.5" wide, 4 layers of lovely madeira sponge with vanilla buttercream and strawberry jam.

Care Bears, Fluffy Clouds and Rainbows of Nightmares!

Cartoons from my childhood... He-Man and She-Ra, Tom and Jerry, Loony Tunes, Yogi Bear... and Care Bears! I can't say I was a major fan of Care Bears but they are from my era and the cake design my customer was enquiring about was a challenge of colourful proportions. And come on, who doesn't love themselves a teddy bear?

This one involved a HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE amount of modelling work. Each bear was hand coloured and hand modelled, nothing was formed from a mould. Nothing against moulds, it's just that these took an hour each to do and I need somebody to acknowledge my dedication in producing seven of them in one day!

The rainbows on the other hand...

I love rainbows. The ones on my unicorn wedding cake turned out perfectly. These though... they just wouldn't dry. So unfortunately the original design was adapted a little and I had to salvage the rainbows from their squishy, crumbliness... however I think the cake turned out pretty darn good in the end.

Little Peter Rabbit

Peter Rabbit had a vegetable garden and very full of vegetables it was too!

At the wedding fair last weekend, I have a lovely gentleman come browse my stand and during conversation I learned he needed a Peter Rabbit cake for his nephew's first birthday. Of course I have space to make one, I said! I love making mini veggies and had never done a Peter Rabbit cake before.

I grew up reading Beatrix Potters stories; I had a beautiful anthology, my favourite stories being about what naughty mittens got up to and Jemima Puddleduck' crossness!

The brief was short; blue ribbon, white and with Peter Rabbit on top. I don't think Steve was expecting the garden design I came up with but he was a very happy camper on collection and that's makes me happy too.

The Bivvy and Snoozing Fisherman

Now, I love doing fishing cakes, for some reason. I've done a tackle box with landed catch, many fisherman kicking back at the pond, an airbrushed scene with antique pole... yesterday's cake was a carved hill scene with bivvy and snoozing occupant. Really loved doing this! Difficult to cover, took many hours more than I originally anticipated but the end result was worth it.

Boobs and Willies!

I've had a contractor here all morning checking my walls and what-not so I thought I'd attempt to sort some of the thousands of photos on my PC...

Well I made a small dent in it! I created loads of files for each different cake theme, one of which is full of, well, boobs and willies. Cake boobs and cake willies, not real ones, that would be weird.

Haven't done one of these in aaaaaaaaages, they were really popular bookings for the men out there.

Wedding Fair - Hosted by Cow Parsley at Trowbridge Civic Centre

Back from yesterday's wedding fair in Trowbridge, I thought I'd show you some of the images from our stand. Having been out of the game for the last few years, I had to start from scratch with the show pieces, business cards, flyers etc! About three months of non-stop work went into these but I'm SO pleased with how they turned out.

Thank you to all the brides and grooms that stopped by to tell me what they thought of the cakes. All amazing feedback and the unicorn wedding cake went down a storm.

Please do email me with any pics you took of the day!
